On 29th September a small group of Club Members and volunteer carers travelled to St Austell, Cornwall for a four day educational trip to the Eden Project. This visit was to learn how plants are grown around the world and harvested to provide for the future generations.
The Bermondsey Community Kitchen provided us with the mini bus and our trip was financed by Gregg’s the Bakers. Our visit to the Eden Project included staying in the YHA facility on site. It accommodates guests in modern bedrooms made from shipping containers, in keeping with the ethos of sustainability. Aisha, a Club Member said “I saw a lot of different plants and our carers read the information notices / cards to us so that we could identify which countries the plants came from.” The Mediterranean Biome shows landscapes of the Mediterranean, South Africa, California and Western Australia. Loraine said she was “surprised by the heat” in the Biome and the “types of different plant growing” in these warm temperate regions of the world. Our visit took is to the Rainforest Biome, with its tropical heat and the enormous trees. It is the largest indoor rainforest in the world. “It was an amazing place seeing waterfalls and colourful birds in this biome” said Barry. The group had a great time away learning about the world’s plants. Comments are closed.
